Rain or shine at Neighbourgoods Market

Capetonians aren’t scared off by a little rain! The Neighbourgoods Market at The Old Biscuit Mill in Woodstock was PACKED this morning, and the pouring showers were shrugged off with good food, some quick thinking, and a few brooms.

Homemade Belgian waffles with ice-cream

Crispy outside, fluffy inside. Hot, sweet goodness throughout.

Most recipes require three separate mixing bowls, with egg separating and egg white folding. This recipe, however, couldn’t be simpler. Here it is:

1 3/4 cups all purpose flour
1/4 cup corn starch
2 tbsp. sugar
1 tbsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. salt
2 eggs
1 3/4 cups milk
1/2 cup cooking oil
1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
Pinch of nutmeg
1/2 tsp cinnamon

Preheat your waffle iron.

Whisk all of the ingredients together in a large bowl until smooth.

(Grease waffle iron before each use) Pour approximately 1/2 cup batter onto the hot waffle iron, and cook for 3:30 minutes, or to your liking.

Serve hot and fresh!
